I’ve been thinking recently about the different social media apps I use. I seem to use everything for different purposes and I don’t seem to have ‘one app for everything, or everyone’.

I have WhatsApp for friends who I message regularly, I have Instagram which I use for its homepage and to forward memes to a small group of friends. I have WeChat for all my friends in China. I almost never send text messages but the app is built-in. Facebook I keep around ‘just in case I ever want to speak to someone I used to go to school with’ even though that almost never happens. I have X for when I want to be horrified by what’s really going on in the world.

And that’s it. 6 apps that seem to be my main apps for social media. I don’t count WordPress or maybe I should? I just write the occasional blog here and that only restarted since 2024 so we’ll see how long this lasts.

I won’t use TikTok so let’s not even.

What else is there that I’m missing? Each of these apps seems to have reached their peak but there’s nothing replacing them that I know of. What’s everyone else using?
