Boat trip and Zante Forest Fire

Words cannot express how long today felt.

The day started out with an 8:00 bus to Zakynthos town where we were due to get on board a boat for our 6 hour tour of the island.

I was glad the bus picked us up from near the hotel! It was so hot I wouldn’t have managed walking too far.

We had no idea that we were getting on a pirate boat!

We sat downstairs at first because we had no idea there was an ‘outdoor’ upstairs.

I thought the boat was quite nice onboard. At the top there was definitely more than enough breeze.

Off we went!

As we were setting off, we noticed a cloud that seemed to be smoke. We weren’t too sure though but a lot of people were looking at it so we assumed they knew more about what was going on.

We were headed in the direction of the smoke so we’d definitely find out what it was. Just a matter of time.

Zante is on fire!

It was definitely hard to just enjoy a boat tour while watching the island burn.. We didn’t have any updates about where it was or where it was spreading to so some people were visibly distressed about it.

We did see some pretty sights, but then that fire kept appearing in the background of all our pics.

There were quite a few stops for swimming.. I didn’t go in after my near death experience a couple days ago. But it looked really nice.

We started to smell the fire.

We only just realised that we were gonna have to go straight through the cloud of smoke to get to where we’re going. Omg. It was bad. And it was SO windy!!

It was bad! 🔥

Then it was behind us. But all the time we were wondering how close it was going to be to our hotels etc.

The show must go on!

More swimming, which I didn’t take part in.

While I was busy taking pictures. Casey had been ‘taken’ by someone! I turned around and he was gone! But we’re on a boat – where could he have gone?!

Turns out he was steering the stationary boat!

The captain had seen Casey and invited him in to take charge.

They no longer allow people to go onto the beach here. But this is the main event of this boat tour.

From this moment until we got off the boat it was like being on a pirate ship! The ups and downs and side to sides and with the Dyson hair dryer hot winds blasting us sideways it was one to make people seasick!
