Finally! I bought my dream car! I’ve been going on about this car for so long now it’s crazy! But I finally got it and I’m so happy.

It’s such a beautiful car and it drives even better than I expected.
I found a video of myself talking about Tesla from back in 2017 – so it’s been an 8 year wait for this. I know it’s a material thing and not important in the grand scheme of things.. But it’s made me very happy.

This particular one is the perfect shade of blue and has black wheel covers. Remember the days of alloy wheels being all that people talked about? Now we have aerodynamic wheel covers 🤣. Anyway I think they look great.
Inside is minimalistic and there’s a huge screen I’m sure you’ve all seen before, which does most of the controls.

This is my first time driving an automatic car so I was a bit unsure about it at first, but it’s seriously a dream to drive.
Regenerative braking
For anyone getting a Tesla, one thing to remember is the regen braking! This got me at first. With a Tesla, I’d say you don’t need to use the brakes for about 90% of your driving. If you’re a careful driver you might not use the brakes a single time while you’re out.
The regen braking is a way to extend the battery life by using the motion of the car to charge the battery, which slows the car down in the process.
As you lift your foot off the accelerator, you’ll feel the car slowing down. If you lift your foot off slowly, the car will gently slow down. If you lift off suddenly, the car will ‘brake’ more harshly as it uses more motion to charge the car. It takes a couple drives to get used to it but I LOVE it!
I didn’t know about it at all… So the first time, I used the regular brakes, which in conjunction with the regen braking was like an emergency stop!
I felt like a learner driver all over again!
Charging
I don’t have a home charger, so I’ll be relying on the Supercharger network which has been fine so far. I explain more about the charging in a separate post.
Cleaning
I’m scared to clean the car. I have no idea what the paint is like, if it will scratch in a car wash, if I need to use special washing products, if one of those hand washing places will ruin it, there are too many worries. So, calling all Tesla owners – how do you clean your car??
Speed!
This car is the basic rear-wheel drive Model Y. It’s not one of the super fast ones. Or at least that’s what they told me.
This car can seriously GO!
I no longer need to worry about ‘if’ I can overtake, or waiting forever at a roundabout because of the fear that another car will catch up with me.
I’ve never experienced this kind of acceleration before. Of course, I’m not talking about drag racing, I’m a safe driver and have never been in a crash in all the years I’ve been driving. I don’t intend to start crashing now.
Luggage space

This car is huge. The space at the back of the car is like the entirety of my last car.

Before when we went weekly shopping at the supermarket, the car would be full once the bags were in. Now, the bags have so much space they slide from left to right, forwards and backwards and have too much space to tip over. I probably need to get a storage solution for the back because of all the space.
Since there’s no engine, you can also put stuff in the front as well. It’s a lot bigger than you’d imagine!
Strangely, with the car seats in, there still isn’t enough space for a fifth person to sit in the middle. Unless the fifth person is a child.
Future car
It’s only been a few weeks, but I feel pretty confident that my next car will be a Tesla as well! This is a dream come true.
