I haven’t really shared much about our new home that we bought about a year ago. The reason? There’s so much of a story into the what, why, how etc that I never got round to it. Just know, it was an absolute disaster of a house in a nice area.

We’ve got a garage to the back of the house, which apparently was damaged when the previous owner’s car was set on fire. I know, right? Why would I buy a house here? But, again, long story. Everything is fine now, apart from that door.

We’ve never been in the garage. Never even fully opened the door. The most I’ve done is lift it up a little to see what’s inside.

We were worried that if we touched it, the entire thing would fall off and that we’d have to replace it on the spot. So we waited until things had settled down and there were fewer things to repair/replace in the house.

What was inside?

As I mentioned above, I was terrified about what we might find inside the garage! I was also even more worried about moving that awful garage door, in case it fell off!

Garage doors here are quite expensive for what they are, so I didn’t want that immediate expense at a time when we hadn’t even sorted out buying our car.

Anyway, I pried it open a little to see what was in there…

The first thing I saw was what looked like an old dirty mattress… Great start.

Then as I moved over a little I saw some old plant pots. So I decided to poke the camera through the gap I’d made at the top of the door…

Wow… That’s a lot of junk to deal with now that the door has been replaced. This house is just full of surprises. Not the kind of surprises you want to find.

Has this ever happened to you?!

Today is the day!

The door fitters came and went in just under two hours and transformed our garage door! But what lurked inside?

In case you were wondering, it was all installed by The Garage Door Company and yes, I’d recommend them!

Finally got a new garage door!

But look what I found inside….

Junk!

So disgusting!
Can you smell it from where you are? 🤮

It’s so bad inside. So that’s something I’ll save for the weekend. Gotta figure out how to get this to the tip without stinking out the car.

👀

Hope I haven’t put you off your lunch!

Anyway, this is what it looks like after the clean-up!

Not bad eh?

Buying a house

All of this will be included in a post one day when I finally share the ups and downs of buying a disaster house and making it a home.

I have to share the mortgage story, the deposit story, the viewing story, the realisation of what we’d bought, the cleanup, the renovation, the painting, moving in and our many trips to the rubbish tip. Phew!

Stay tuned!

If there’s anything you want me to include that you think we may have experienced during the house buying process, let me know!
